http://drunkinlife.com | I've Moved

http://drunkinlife.com

I was just checking my analytics data and it seems I'm receiving some healthy traffic here still. A while back I moved all of these posts over to my own server and have continued the same silly rants and finds over there. SO, for those that are wondering "did he fall off the face of the earth again???" No, just moved... so get out of here, fix your bookmarks, and find out how much weight I've actually lost, what came in the mail after 3 months, and why are you so pissed at the Hyatt?

The boy and I have done it. Together we have beaten the coolest game either of us have ever played (Guitar Hero is a very close second). After months of casual play we just beat Bowser (which, frankly, I thought was a bit easy in comparison to some of the levels that I freaking hated playing over, and over, and over to beat). Great game, amazing concept, awesome story; kudos to the Mario team. We had a blast playing it.

Panera Side Note | Google Porn?

Seems Flickr is blocked as inappropriate content by this Panera? I headed over to Picasa to see if I could get through and I could (except Google is using a sub-domain so it's possible that's why I can get though). I tried Playboy.com to see if that could get through; no such luck (not as if I ever go to Playboy.com - I'm not trying to be funny, I really don't - no, seriously, Christ). So, on the Google theory I tried porn.google.com; it's still loading so maybe I've stumbled onto a secret Google underground file sharing service? That would be cool. I wonder what SERPs show up for porn.google in Google? Lets look...

Woah, seems result #4 displays a result that's a little Google-Freaky-Diky. Now, I'm not much of a Google Groups kind of guy, but this is really way out of my league.

Anyway, glad to see that Panera is preventing pervs from looking at inappropriate sites out in the open, but Flickr... come-on.

TimeWarner Kills Me | or Panera Saved Me

Cable is out. So is Internet & Phone. Has been since yesterday AM. I called TimeWarner yesterday to multiple busy signals, one dropped call and a wait time I simply couldn't handle with the meetings I had. Weather was a little bad, so I figured someone in my hood would have called. Well, after OVER an hour on hold with them this AM turns out a tech has to come look. Seems "critters" like the low voltage and vibration and may be the cause of my issue. My isolated issue. No one else seems to be experiencing my issues. So when I'm told they can't get anyone out till TOMORROW from 11am - 2pm, I'm a little pissed. His response:

"well if you had called yesterday..."
"I DID call yesterday to busy signals and too long of a wait time..."
"I understand..."

Bullshit he understands, I'm the guy who's literally OUT. Odd thing is I just had them out to take my HD box and swap it with HD Cards for my HD Tivo. All my HD channels work great, but regular network looks like ass; apparently a strong indicator of an issue... no shit.

So due to the weather Panera isn't as busy as usual (so my wife tells me) and we are able to sit here and get some work done online without being that couple that people glare at taking up a table on their lunch hour. So thank you Panera.

And TimeWarner, I know shit happens. Animals chewing on my lines; it happens. Little faster response time on the phone would be nice. Little faster response time on fixing the problem (as in, SAME DAY) would also be nice. The rep I spoke with was friendly enough (bit if a dick at first but warmed up; actually, he got detailed-personal which weirded me out). Technology fails. It's the fixing part where you have the opportunity to shine.

Because you're not that guy

So my wife looks over to me and says "actually, you are that guy..."

We all watched the SuperBowl last night. Because of this stupid weight loss competition I couldn't enjoy bowls of chips, pretzels, dip, soda, beer (ok, I gave up beer a while ago, but I really wanted a Miller Light for some reason) and PIZZA ROLLS! Sober, hungry and TIVO in hand I rewound my share of SuperBowl ads. Breathing fire was funny. GoDaddy was alright (online spot). The one that hit a personal nerve was the Helzberg Diamond spot.

Let's back up a little. When the XMAS holiday was closing in on us Kansas City was littered with billboards for Helzberg. I was irritated then due to the message they were pushing. Helzberg was basically saying "...you are a sad, dumb-man, she knows it, you can't nor do you HAVE to do anything else but get her diamonds...from Helzberg..." That's a bit degrading. Don't get me wrong, I'm a selfish prick and I do pretty much what I want then ask for forgiveness later (have you see the Porsche blogs), but I also try and DO things that matter. I buy her gifts and jewelry, but not instead of the personal care and thoughtful smaller things.

"...because you're not that guy..."

Back to the SuperBowl ads. Now granted, I'm not going to wash the dog instead of watching the game with friends. Fine. I get that. The card aspect is another story. First wedding anniversary. We didn't have much our first year. Just got into our first house, had our first kid, things were tight, but I did want to do something special. Paper is year one. I went out and bought some very heavy paper stock. I also wrote (wait for it) a poem - not shit, I actually put down words from my heart. I then bought a carving block and tools to create a custom stamp for the cover (come-on, I got into college on a painting scholarship, cut me some slack). I then asked my mother (shut it), whom has the best penmanship, to transcribe the poem onto the inside. Lastly, I folded the piece and wax stamped a seal. I basically did exactly what Helzberg was suggesting I wouldn't do in a million years. The point? Just because I'm a selfish ass doesn't mean I don't care enough about my wife to do something special for her.

So my wife looks over at me and says "actually, you are that guy...and when you're not you buy me Tiffany's..."

Got My First Leica

I've been missing shooting lately; a lot. I used to shoot every day. I've been lazy and frankly not wanting to haul my 20D around everywhere I go (unless I'm out shooting specifically for the sake of shooting). We have a digital point and shoot, but it's a bit bulky for my liking. So I got a new toy... a Digital Leica D-LUX 3. The plan is to keep it in my pocket and shoot again everyday. I've also upgraded my Flickr account to PRO status to dump all the images. I'll be posting some of the shots I like best over here as well, so stay tuned.

Nike+ : My Runs

So, part of this Biggest Looser challenge was that I was going to run 10 miles a week. The first week that didn't happen (sick family, business travel, anniversary party... bad/long week). So, to try and stay on track I've pushed my profile public and referenced my progress to the right (that new orange pod over there... just over there to the right, christ).

For those that want to see the full progress with graphs and what-not, here is my nike+ public profile link. The cool thing about my new little app to the right is that it allows you to scroll though my last 5 runs. That flat line which make it look like I'm a slacker was my cooling down. and the 3 prior were nasty blisters, me trying to fix my shoe... so if you click back to the 4th, then you'll see a nice little up/down chart/graph.

Also, we hit Old Navy today to get the boy some new pj's. Saw some cool looking jeans, flipped the tag: 34/34. Thought to myself "eh, I'll grab em, take em home, wife will prob get to take them back and get herself something." See, I'm technically a 36/33 (I have to buy 36/34 and get the legs hemmed). Anyway, I'm wearing the 34/34's currently and I've got room to spare. They need to be hemmed. I've lost 2 pant sizes in 10 days. Funny.

AppleTV | Thought I was getting the updated version

How excited was I? I didn't really care about the Air, but AppleTV (or ATV as us cool kids call it) was exactly what I wanted the previous version to be. I watched the demo with the alternative-chick telling me all about the new interface, the HD content access, and the ability to rent movies right from the box! I was sold, especially with the price drop. I ordered, and days later (last night) I had my new toy! Pissed, as it were, is what I was/am/and will continue to be.

Oh, I listened to them tell me EXISTING customers would be allowed a free software update download in 2 weeks, but never did they say NEW customers would have to wait AS WELL!?!? I was expecting to see my new interface, the ability to download movies right from ATV as opposed to downloading from iTunes THEN syncing to ATV (which I did last night for LOST season 2; talk about a long ass time for THAT pain in the ass).

Bullshit. Seems I jumped the gun and will have to wait along with the other ATV guys/girls. Anyway, I'm leaving all judgment till the first part of Feb.

Last thing... why the hell when I downloaded LOST season 2 from iTunes are a handful of episodes NOT wide-screen... and random episodes at that?

WeightHaters

If you've been following me on Twitter (I love when I go dark for months at a time here, jump back in and write as if I have a readership) I'm sure you've seen some odd "food" related posts. How I've been feeling gross, go team, etc. I've been recruited to join a team of WeightHaters at my company. What is a WeightHater... we're doing a Biggest Looser style weight loss program at work. Weigh-in was today at 9:30am. For the past week my team and myself have been "eating more them usual" to tip-the-scales for the weigh-in. I've been making a pig of myself hoping to hit the 230lbs mark. I haven't been 230 since I was a fat bastard my senior year of college.

Weigh-In Weight
278.8lbs

So, I didn't hit my mark, but I did make a gross blob of myself and am ready to take it way down. How do I plan on doing this? Good question:

Things No Longer Doing
No Soda
No Fast-Food (i.e. if I have to eat out, it'll be appropriate, not a burger and fries)
No Booze
No Eating After 8pm
No Smoking (already not doing that)
No Junk Food (without extra effort to burn off calories)

Things Doing
Actually Striving for 5 a Day
Water 90% of The Time
Eating Breakfast
Running 10 miles a week

So there we go. I'm adjusting diet, stopping bad habits, and trying to keep myself to a cardio specific routine. My metabolism will kick back in (and up), I'll feel better, and I'll make my teammates sick at the speed at which I can drop pounds.

Its not a resolution; it was being sick

Smoking... been doing it on and off since I was 15 years old. As of late the taste and smell have begun to fade. I'm smoking for the sake of smoking.

I got sick, the desire to do anything faded, quitting now seems like a good idea. Anyway, I'm stopping for the time being. No gum, no patches, just not doing it. Sorry for the mood swings to come.
